Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde rallied Nigerians to prioritize the development of the country’s export market as a strategy to address current economic challenges. Speaking at the inaugural Oyo State International Trade Fair, EXPOYO 2024, Governor Makinde assured attendees that the event would now be an annual affair, with plans to attract foreign participants in subsequent editions. He underscored his administration's commitment to reshaping Nigerians’ mindset towards export substitution.
Themed "Showcasing The Economic Potential of Oyo State Through Agriculture, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises," EXPOYO 2024 unfolded at the renowned EXPOYO Ground, Samonda, Ibadan. Earlier, Chief Ademola Ojo, the state commissioner for trade, industry, investment, and cooperatives, affirmed the government's resolve to support the event annually. He also pledged closer collaboration with the Oyo State Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (OYCCIMA) to optimize the utilization of the permanent trade fair complex.
Dr. Daniel Gbadero, President of the Oyo State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, commended Governor Makinde for endorsing the 2024 EXPOYO Trade Fair as part of his economic transformation agenda. He urged Nigerians to embrace local production of essential goods, including food, medicine, and motorized gadgets, to bolster self-sufficiency. Meanwhile, Otunba Dele Oye, President of the National Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, pledged unwavering support from the national level to the Oyo State government's initiatives.
