Figliano named Dean of college of Education at Troy university


 

Dr. Fred Figliano has been named Dean of Troy University’s College of Education.

The announcement was made by Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, during Thursday’s

Board of Trustees meeting. Dr. Figliano has served as interim dean of the college since

June 2023.

“I am pleased to announce that after a national search, we have named Dr. Figliano as

our Dean to lead the College of Education,” Dr. Hawkins said. “Troy University was

founded in 1887 as a teachers’ college, and that legacy of graduating quality education

professionals to serve in classrooms throughout Alabama and beyond continues today.

I believe the leadership Dr. Figliano will continue to provide will serve our students,

faculty and our University well.”

Dr. Figliano has served as Interim Dean since June of 2023.

Prior to becoming interim dean, Dr. Figliano served as Associate Dean for Academic

Affairs and Strategic Initiatives for the College of Education.

Dr. Figliano first joined Troy University in 2011 as an adjunct faculty member before

becoming a member of the full-time faculty in 2014 as an Assistant Professor in the

Department of Teacher Education. He served as Chair of the Department of Teacher

Education from 2019 to 2021.

Dr. Figliano was a Troy University Chancellor’s Fellow in 2021, and, in 2018, was among

the Leaders to Watch as selected by the International Technology and Engineering

Educators Association. In 2022, he was selected to participate in the American

Association of State Colleges and Universities’ Emerging Leaders Program.

Dr. Figliano earned a bachelor’s degree in technology education from The College of

New Jersey in 2006, a Master’s of Education (2007) and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and

Instruction with a specialization in Integrative STEM Education (2011), both from Virginia

Tech. He also holds a Certificate in Integrative Science Technology Engineering and

Mathematics (STEM) Education from Virginia Tech.

students and making a difference in their lives. I am confident that, as a team, we will

future
