Former Governor of Abia State and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider its decision to embark on a nationwide protest over the prevailing hardship in the country.
In a video release obtained by ABN TV, Senator Kalu urged the NLC and its affiliate unions to opt for dialogue with the federal government to address their grievances effectively.
The NLC has been vocal about the need for a review of the current minimum wage of N30,000, which it argues does not reflect the current economic reality, marked by soaring prices of goods and services. The labor union is advocating for an increase to N200,000 as the minimum wage. While acknowledging the widespread hunger in Nigeria, Senator Kalu assured that the legislature is collaborating with the executive arm of government to implement measures aimed at alleviating the hardship faced by many Nigerian families.
Senator Kalu emphasized that instead of resorting to demonstrations and the destruction of public assets, now is the time to work towards national unity
