In various sectors, businesses express concern over the deteriorating power supply, compelling them to increasingly depend on alternative energy sources. These alternatives, deemed expensive and unsustainable, pose a significant risk to their ongoing viability.
Despite varying explanations from different distribution companies (DisCos) in recent weeks regarding the persistent decline in power supply, industries bear the brunt, resorting to diesel and petrol generators to sustain production.
Chinedu Grace Otakpor-Azih, the Managing Director of Kazih Kits Limited, voiced frustration about the power situation, citing production delays. "We utilize both diesel and petrol generators, using the former for daytime production and the latter for overnight. Our weekly expenditure on petrol alone amounts to about N60,000, and the diesel costs have become challenging to track but are substantial."
