Greatness Olorunfemi, a young and promising lady, tragically lost her life after becoming a victim of the notorious 'one-chance' operators. These criminals have been causing anguish and fear among Abuja residents for quite some time.
Greatness, a dedicated community developer and a member of the Young African Leaders Initiative Network (YALI), met a horrifying end when she was reportedly pushed out of a fast-moving vehicle along the Maitama-Kubwa arterial highway.
The distressing incident took an even darker turn when the Maitama General Hospital faced accusations of negligence and complicity in Greatness's death. According to reports and a viral video shared with PUNCH Healthwise, an unconscious Greatness was rushed to the medical facility by sympathizers, but the medical staff allegedly insisted on a police report. Tragically, she passed away just 20 minutes later.
The video showed her lifeless body inside a vehicle parked at the entrance to the locked emergency unit, adding to the shock and outrage surrounding the incident.
Authorities have not remained silent on the matter, as the case was promptly reported at the Mabushi Police Station and subsequently taken over by the FCT Commissioner of Police for a thorough investigation. Medical personnel on duty that fateful night have been summoned for questioning by the police.
Moyosoluwa Oladayo, the YALI Network Abuja coordinator, expressed deep concern over Greatness's tragic death and called on FCT Minister Chief Nyesom Wike and relevant security agencies to ensure that justice is served and the culprits face the full force of the law. Oladayo emphasized the need for transparency in the investigation, highlighting the broader issue of rising insecurity in the community and the importance of accountability in the healthcare system.
Greatness, described as someone with greatness from within, had a fervent commitment to contributing to the betterment of Nigeria, making her loss even more profound for the YALI Network Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the National Health Act of 2014, which mandates that healthcare providers cannot refuse emergency medical treatment for any reason, may have been violated by Maitama General Hospital.
In response to Greatness's tragic passing, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Abuja branch, where she was a member, also condemned the circumstances of her death and called for a thorough investigation.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the audacious 'one-chance' syndicates that have been operating in Abuja with impunity, posing a grave threat to public transportation users and leading to numerous tragic losses of life.
