School refutes allegation of sexual assault on minor

 

The management of Greater Scholars Group of schools, Lagos, has dismissed claims that a staff of the school sexually assaulted a four-year-old female pupil.

  

In a statement by its founder, Mrs Bola Oyesanya, she said in the last four months, a couple, Mr and Mrs Olusola, have launched media campaign against the school, alleging that their child was sexually assaulted by one of its security personnel.

  

The school management, however, refuted the allegation, describing it as unfounded.

According to reports, the child had complained about pains in her private part, and upon further enquiries alleged that one of the guards assaulted her. 

According to the parents, the child, on April 30, cried out over pains in her vagina, was taken to a private hospital in Lekki area of Lagos for examination.

they saw the bruises, took her to the Lifeline Children’s Hospital, Lekki, in Lagos, for a medical examination.

  

“Upon seeing the bruises, the paediatrician transferred us to a gynaecologist to run a test, who confirmed the injury and physical trauma as a result of an attempted forced penetration.

 

“We went ahead to the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, and it was the same result. Though they told us her hymen is still intact,” the victim’s parents said.

 

But the school, in its reaction, said issues of protection, safety, and well-being of pupils in its care are of priority.

  

Oyesanya, said the defamatory campaign by the couple was allegedly aimed at blackmailing the school and extort money.

 

She said: “Rape and child defilement are serious issues and should never be used as a ruse by manipulative parents to blackmail schools and extort money from individuals.

“We, therefore, urge the general public to beware of the desperate antics of the couple, who have variously used the four-year-old child in their media campaign antics, including posting her pictures and the girl’s voice, thereby exposing the child to abuse. We particularly call on law enforcement agencies and the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, (DSVA), Ministry of Youth and Social Development to urgently consider filing an application for Emergency Child Protection Order for the child.
